Description :

The University of Hull is pursuing a strategy of supporting excellent research with distinctive, world-leading strengths at Hull. We want to enhance the impact on society of our projects.

The University of Hull has recently made significant investments in interdisciplinary materials research and, as part of its plastics pledge, is looking to reduce our dependence on single use plastics. The University of Hull has also been awarded an £1m institutional award from the UKRI for a Creative Circular Economy Approaches to Eliminating Plastics Waste project entitled ‘Evolving a Circular Plastics Economy’.  This award will enable us to catalyse new ideas and drive forward exiting innovative cross-disciplinary research in this area.

As part of the University initiative and the UKRI project, the Department of Chemical Engineering is developing recovery of plastic waste for the production of value-added products. To support this research effort, we are seeking to recruit a PDRA at band 7 in Chemical Engineering. Applicants should have a BEng or MEng in Chemical Engineering and PhD in a field relevant to the production of value-added products from plastics/waste via the thermochemical route and catalysis is highly desirable.  The post would be based in the Department of Chemical Engineering and closely collaborating with the Department of Chemistry.

The successful candidate will develop and pursue a high quality research programme that contributes and compliments the research themes of the Evolving a ‘Circular Plastics Economy’ project. The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues across Hull University Business School, Energy and Environment Institute, Geography, Education, Social Linguistics, and Psychology to name but a few. You will be expected be a keen ambassador for the project, both internally and to a broader external audience, building relationships and seeking opportunities to optimise the impact of the work we do, for example by publishing in high impact international journals. You may also be expected to supervise project PhD students in the labs.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Evolving a Circular Plastics Economy research project team and be part of our University of Hull Plastics Collaboratory.
