Description :

LEC is seeking to appoint an efficient, motivated and flexible Environmental Chemistry Research Technician to work on a Defra/Environment Agency air monitoring network. The Toxic Organic Micro-Pollutants (TOMPs) network (https://uk-air.defra.gov.uk/data/tomps-data) has been running for over 20 years, and has provided long term ambient air trend data for a range of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) at both urban and rural locations. Data from the network provides Defra with valuable information on emission/source controls and on the effectiveness of International chemicals regulation. It is also used to demonstrate UK complience with its obligations under the Stockholm Convention and UN/ECE Long-Range Atmospheric Transport Protocol. This post will be responsible for undertaking all aspects in running the network including sampling and laboratory analysis. It will involve operation and maintenance of the air sampling equipment using Andersen GPS-1 Hi.Vols. and the laboratory analysis of the samples ensuring that quality control procedures are adhered to at all times. The analysis of the samples requires excellent laboratory skills covering all aspects of sample extraction, purification and quantification using GCMS.

Applicants for this post must hold a BTEC or higher (or equivalent experience) in a relevant area and have experience of working in a laboratory environment.

This is a fixed term technical post for six months.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
