Description :

Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD studentship at the University of Nottingham to address key challenges in manufacturing engineering. The project will seek to develop a novel electromagnetic sensing system to detect defects in situ in complex composite materials. This will involve the design and implementation of novel smart sensors, high-speed inspection tool underpinned by machine learning capability.

The successful candidate will be based in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, UK. We are seeking an applicant to start on this exciting project in August/September 2019.

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, having state-of-the-art, purpose built facilities, offers an excellent environment for the realisation of high-impact research projects.

This is an exciting PhD project that has a combination of academic and industrial challenges, which will enhance the student’s ability to tackle complex intellectual and practical aspects of electric engineering, manufacturing and materials science.

We are seeking talented candidates with:

First or upper second class degree in engineering, applied mathematics or a relevant discipline;Demonstrated ability to develop electromagnetic sensors;Ability to use numerical modelling to simulate complex electrical systems;A driven, professional and self-dependent work attitude is essential; and

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a novel electromagnetic sensing system with strong links to industrial applications and key skills and knowledge in preparation for a high-impact, high-technology research or industrial career.

The studentship covers both tuition fees and a tax-free stipend at RCUK rates (up to £16,777 a year) for EU and UK candidates. Applications from international students are also welcome, however, applicants will be required to cover shortfall in fees from personal resources.

Applications with a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and academic transcript should be sent to Dr Juliano Katrib, Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham, Email: juliano.katrib@nottingham.ac.uk, Tel: 011595 14104
