Description :

Do you enjoy working in a busy and sometimes chaotic environment? Are you resilient and articulate? Are you able to welcome library users with all manner of directional, technical, and institutional enquiries?

As a Resource Assistant you will be the first point of contact for the visitors who use St. Peters House for research, study, and project work. In the heart of the city of Brighton & Hove the library is a key destination for the thousands of students enrolled at the Schools based at City Campus/Grand Parade and beyond. The Library houses a browsable collection of 85,000+ books and objects, and you will shift and organise library collections, prioritising your workload in agreement with your supervisor, and problem solve obstacles as they arise.

To be successful as a candidate for this job, you should have proven experience in a busy public-facing role where you have practised being an aware communicator as you will help a diverse group of library users. You must be able to undertake all the physical requirements of the job as you will carry and shelve books and other tasks that involved handling heavy books and going up and down stairs repetitively.

As part of the role you will also oversee the cashing up of the till for the library so that accurate balances are maintained, exact payments are made to finance, and floats are consistently available.

This is a permanent full-time position, and job-sharers are welcome to apply. The post holder would be required to work Monday to Thursday 09.00 - 17.30 and Fridays 12.30 - 20.00 and the occasional Saturday (for which time is taken back as flex).
