This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and talented researcher to join the Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMC) Research Group and work on projects advancing technology of electrical machines. Applications are invited for the above position to join the growing PEMC Research Group at the University of Nottingham.  The PEMC group has undergone a significant period of growth and now has over 150 members, with 18 academics (including 7 full professors) and approximately 120 PhD students and post-doctoral research fellows.  The group has excellent facilities for experimental work including approximately 2500m2of research space and a construction and testing capability up to 1MW. 

The successful candidate will undertake research on conventional and novel electrical machine design, modelling and analysis with focus on high performance industrial, automotive and aerospace applications. The successful candidate will also be supporting a number of research projects within the group and will be working closely with colleagues across technical disciplines. This post is in the Faculty of Engineering based on the University Park campus. However, when needed, travel across University sites and to industrial partners may be required.

Candidates must have a Good (2.i) first degree (or equivalent) in electrical/electronic/mechanical engineering or a related subject. A PhD or equivalent (or near completion) and research experience in the design or modelling of electrical machines, good working knowledge of electromagnetic FE software and preferably familiarity with electrical machines’ control methodologies. A background in mechanical and thermal modelling is desirable with skills in mechanical engineering design highly desirable.

It is also expected that the candidate will demonstrate high level communication and organisational skills and an aptitude for liaison with industrial partners.

This full-time, fixed-term post is available for commencement between February and August and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years. Job share arrangements may be considered.
