Description :

The string theory and holography group in Mathematical Sciences at Southampton has a postdoctoral position available, available from 1 October 2019 or soon after. This position is funded by a Royal Society grant of Andrew O’Bannon, and the group is keen to attract a candidate interested in working on conformal field theories with boundaries or defects using various methods, including in particular holographic duality. 

The successful candidate will join our wide-ranging research programme in theoretical high energy physics. The string theory and holography group in Mathematical Sciences consists of Ines Aniceto, Oscar Dias, Carlos Mafra, Andrew O’Bannon, Andreas Schmitt, Kostas Skenderis, Marika Taylor, and David Turton.  Additional staff members working on string theory and quantum field theory based in Physics include James Drummond, Nick Evans, Masanori Hanada, and Tim Morris.

The candidate will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in working on conformal field theories with boundaries or defects, and holography.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
