Description :

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic post-doctoral researcher with experience in plant molecular biology to join the photosynthesis team at Lancaster as part of the project Rice Research Newton Fund: Exploiting a Cyanobacterial CO2 Concentrating Mechanism to Increase Photosynthesis and Yield in Rice. The aim of the proposed research at LEC is to engineer the cyanobacterial carbon concentrating mechanism into rice to improve the photosynthetic efficiency and yield of this crop.

Lancaster University has been named University of the Year 2018 by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide; it is in the top 10 UK Universities. The Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) is the largest and most interdisciplinary department of the University. The photosynthesis team includes a number of academic and research staff, as well as postgraduate students working towards improving crop performance in the changing climate.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups. Preferred candidates for this post will have a background in plant sciences, knowledge of photosynthesis, and relevant experience of plant molecular biology. A proactive and enthusiastic approach and good communication and interpersonal skills are essential for the collaborative nature of the research. Excellent attention to detail and organisation are required to meet the goals of the project. The successful applicant will work for a period of 4-6 weeks with our collaborators at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Shanghai, to carry out protein biochemistry assays on stably transformed rice plants.
