The IT Systems Architect position forms part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme co-funded by Innovate UK.  It is essential you understand how KTP works with business and the University, and the vital role you will play if you successfully secure a KTP Associate position.  For more information please go to:  http://bcuadvantage.co.uk/funding/knowledge-transfer-partnerships.   This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate will be based at Conway Packing Services Limited (CPS).  Conway Packing Services Ltd (CPS) is a well-established SME with a current Turnover of £6.5M, placing it as one of the largest export packers in the Midlands. Employing experienced tradesmen and sales teams whom have developed an encyclopaedic knowledge base, from which the company operates, providing highly customised products to international standards. The company’s production processes requires a deep understanding of the clients’ requirements, supported by highly experienced staff. The associate will work within the team at Conway Packing Services Limited’s West Midlands office and be supported by academics from BCU’s School of Computing and Digital Technology.   The associate will work on a project relating to: The transformation of the IT Systems in a renowned export packing company, ensuring the harmonisation, integration and improvement of the company’s business and production processes, and to providing timely and relevant access to the company’s key performance indicators in support of its operations.   The associate will engage with:  Company Directors, Sales Teams, BCU Academics, Manufacturing Personnel, Quality Control and Technology Service Providers.   The associate will use current and emerging hardware systems and will be tasked to develop and pilot Industrial Internet of Things Devices and platforms, VB.Net, 3D CAD, Microsoft 365 Applications and SQL Databases   The associate will also be involved in: 3D CAD, Computer Aided Design, Internet of Things (IoT) platforms and processes, development of data-centred industrial production frameworks and processes.   The output of the partnership will be: the development of an information system to integrate and manage the business production and business processes.   It is essential for this role that we find an associate with good technical & social skills who can function well in a tightly knit group. As part of their role, the associate will be expected to interact with some of the most senior people inside and outside of the company. The candidate must also be adept at applying their knowledge to commercial projects, driving value and making an impact where possible, with an ability to solve problems and create innovative solutions.   Skills required:   Hold a good first degree (equivalent to a First Class or 2:1 Honours) in an applied computing discipline. Have a keen interest in Innovative System Development and Digital Transformation preferably have experience of working on computer vision and industrial sensor projects and innovative system development in a manufacturing environment. Have excellent programming skills and be comfortable developing in several programming languages, most commonly VB.net, and Microsoft SQL Databases. Have a clear understanding and knowledge of Internet of Things technologies, and a understating of prototyping sensor and communication based embedded computing prototypes. Have excellent data modelling skills to be able to identify data sources and their interaction with business and production processes. Have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to be able to work with directors, co-workers to ensure requirements are being met and produce UML diagrams to highlight areas of improvement and methodology to be used. Be numerically competent and keen to develop knowledge and skills in research methods and data analysis techniques. Good communication, time management and problem solving skills and be confident in dealing with complex digital transformation, which will involve critical and creative thinking.
