Description :

This exciting research opportunity has arisen on an ongoing industrial collaborative project which involves partners like Viasat and Bentley. The aim of the project is to develop state of the art, always connected vehicles and Lancaster’s role is to develop an intelligent link bounding algorithms which will support cellular, satellite and IoT connectivity. The research opens up the opportunity to develop new and exciting approaches for increasing system capacity and link reliability by utilising existing communications infrastructure.

We are seeking to appoint a part-time Senior Research Associate to work on the Innovate UK funded project (SkyBridge) where Lancaster is an academic partner. SkyBridge is in its final year and the work will concern the verification and optimisation of the developed algorithms. A combinatorial approach of theoretical and hands on practical investigations will provide a unique opportunity to work individually and in cooperation with the world leading industrial partners while the project outcomes are expected to be implemented in real commercial systems. This will provide a major novel breakthrough in the study of advanced communications systems with wide ranging, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary impact.

We invite applications from enthusiastic individuals who have both a PhD and practical experience in a relevant discipline such as Quality of Service in Cellular Networks or Cross Layer System Optimisation. You must be able to demonstrate a research background in the area of hybrid network simulations and practical experience in cellular networks optimisation and performance monitoring. Familiarity with smart antenna design and 5G network architecture will put you at an advantage. We will also value highly your ability to learn rapidly and to adapt to new technologies beyond your current skills and expertise. For more details, please see the Job Description/Person Specification for these positions.

The School of Computing and Communications offers a highly inclusive and stimulating environment for career development, and you will be exposed to a range of further opportunities over the course of this post. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.

The part-time, 0.4 fte, Senior Research Associate position is being offered on a fixed-term basis until 30 September 2019.
