Description :

The Engineering Department at Lancaster University wishes to appoint a visionary candidate, with genuine motivation and the desire to develop new research themes in advanced manufacturing in support of the Industry 4.0 vision for, but not limited CAD design, digital manufacturing, robotics and data.

This is a full-time, permanent lectureship appointment. You should have a PhD in a relevant research field, a publication record commensurate to the lectureship post and the willingness to be a research leader and teach at the highest levels of quality.  Candidates with relevant industrial backgrounds are also encouraged to apply. Evidence of an ability to attract external grant income to support your research is highly desirable.

Engineering is a strategically important area of investment for Lancaster University. A £50M ten-year expansion plan is in place for bridging our successful Engineering department toward a world leading School of Engineering. It will substantially strengthen all areas of Engineering, by attracting high calibre staff and establishing new cutting-edge spaces and facilities. The phase 1 was concluded in 2015 with the opening of an award-winning £13 million new Engineering building, providing world-class environment and facilities base for teaching and research. The phase 2 is in progress with an ambitious ten-year recruitment plan and a second state of the art engineering building to be opened in August 2021. These new world-leading expertise and facilities will foster widespread academic collaborations across a number of HEIs and research centres, adding value to current and future large investments in UK research and will greatly enhance our ability to form strategic partnerships with large industrial partners.

You will be pivotal in building our success and opening new topical exciting research routes. The position will support and grow activities with cross-faculty University research institutes, including the Materials Science Institute, the Data Science Institute and Security Lancaster.

The Engineering Department is recognised for its international excellence and world-leading research. The Department is ranked highly in national league tables; in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, 91% of research and 100% of impact in General Engineering was assessed as internationally excellent and world leading.
