This post provides an excellent opportunity for a qualitative researcher to undertake research in child public health and child protection within the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton. 

The successful candidate will be involved in undertaking an evaluative study of the Operation Encompass police-school safeguarding partnership; with the overall aim of informing further intervention and commissioning of services. 

You will have a PhD in Public Health or in an applied health related field (e.g. Demography, Medical Anthropology or Psychology) and/or have equivalent qualifications and experience in epidemiology or applied health research.  You must have demonstrable experience in qualitative data collection (e.g. focus groups, interviews) in a research environment and knowledge of working with public authorities (e.g. councils, NHS, the Police).  You will also have worked with multiple stakeholders to evaluate a service (e.g. intervention, programme, treatment) within the community.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

This is a part-time/ flexible post (2 days per week or 14 hours per week equivalent), based at Southampton General Hospital and the post holder must be available to travel to participating Study sites and meetings.

The post is available from 20th May 2019 for 12 months.
