Description :

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in molecular virology? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?

You are invited to join an enthusiastic newly established research group studying aspects of norovirus replication. This project involves detailed studies of the replication and particle assembly of noroviruses with the long term aim of developing improved therapies against this important human pathogen. The post is funded as part of a Medical Research Council (MRC) Fellowship awarded to Dr Morgan Herod.

The research project will provide novel insights into the mechanisms that determine the separate and potentially conflicting roles of noroviruses genomes; replication or assembly into new infectious virions. We will use a combination of genetic complementation techniques coupled to virus evolution studies to identify which virus and host factors are essential for each of these critical stages in the norovirus life cycle. We will also develop cutting edge “click chemistry” labelling methods to investigate the spatial and temporal separation between virus RNA synthesis and assembly.

This information will be applied to develop new strategies for vaccine development such as the production of virus-like particles that are reflective of the assembled infectious virions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic research fellow to train in new and exciting techniques in a rapidly developing area of research.

You should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in Virology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline, and experience with recombinant DNA technologies including mutagenesis. You will join an enthusiastic and ambitious research group studying various aspects of virology as part of the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology and collaborators in the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology.
