A proactive and creative person is sought for the project ‘Communicating Interdisciplinary Development Research’, based at the University of Bath.

The project has two key aspects.  First, it will support a workshop series, ‘Meeting the Challenges: Interdisciplinary research for global development’. Along with the PI, Professor Sarah White (Department of Social and Policy Sciences) the key tasks are to generate new knowledge about best practice in interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of international development, and make this knowledge available in an attractive and accessible form.  Second, the post-holder will provide broader research communications support to the Development Studies Association (DSA) to ensure this knowledge is shared most effectively and enable networking and promote new research partnerships.

Applicants must have a degree, or equivalent appropriate professional qualification and experience in research communications. A postgraduate qualification in a development related discipline will be a strong advantage. S/he must have sound, current knowledge of communications tools and techniques, including the range of opportunities offered by PR, advertising, print, digital and social media; and excellent verbal and written communication skills. S/he must be able to take initiatives and work independently, but also to engage, inspire, and collaborate effectively with others. Understanding of key global development issues, stakeholders and debates is critical.

The Officer will work directly with the DSA president and be located within the Department of Social and Policy Sciences Research Communications Team. S/he will also liaise closely with NomadIT, who are responsible for the administration of the DSA, including some communications activities. The post will involve flexible working, with the option to work from home part of the week, but also require some travel and out of hours working. 

This position is a part time (0.6 FTE), fixed term position with an expected end date of 1 October 2019.
