The University of Southampton is one of the UK’s top universities, offering well-established Pre-sessional Programmes. Staff benefits include a competitive salary, subsidised accommodation, four-day induction, comprehensive materials, and professional guidance and development throughout. Due to the high student interest in our summer Pre-sessional programmes we are looking to expand our team of experienced EAP Tutors, successful candidates will work as either Reading and Writing Tutors or Listening and Speaking Tutors.

You should be a graduate with a CELTA (or equivalent), ideally hold a DELTA or relevant postgraduate qualification, and have experience in teaching EFL. Experience of teaching EAP on a Pre-sessional programme is advantageous, but candidates wishing to extend their experience in EAP will be considered.

Course A contract dates (including induction): Tuesday 25 June – Thursday 12 September 2019

Course B contract dates (including induction): Tuesday 23 July – Thursday 5 September 2019

Reading and Writing Tutor salary: £34,189 to £36,261 per annum, pro rata, fixed-term

Listening and Speaking Tutor salary: £30,395 to £32,236 per annum, pro rata, fixed-term

*Reading and Writing posts are available on a full-time basis only; Listening and Speaking posts are available on a full-time or part-time (0.5 FTE) basis with part-time hours spread across four days, with either a Wednesday or Friday free from teaching.

The salary quoted above details the full range available for this role.  Staff progress through this range by one spine point annually, subject to satisfactory performance, until they reach the top.  Pay rates are beyond our control and we are unable to enter into negotiations.   You must be available to teach for the whole period of the programme for which you are applying. Annual leave is not permitted to be taken during the programme, save for exceptional circumstances that must be approved by the Directorate in advance. Annual leave accrued during the period of employment will be paid accordingly, at the end of the programme.

Please specify your preferred course (A OR B) and role (Reading and Writing OR Listening and Speaking Tutor) in your application form, and indicate any flexibility.  We offer students an option to attend either a Business or General English programme. Staff allocation is driven by the needs of the programme, but candidates are welcome to indicate a preferred subject area. Depending on programme needs, you may be required to work on another part of the University Pre-sessional Programmes.
