Description :

This post-doctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) position in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of Hull is to work on the development of novel antimicrobial materials and is funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The successful candidate will receive a high level of training which, in addition to learning about specific techniques, attending seminar programmes etc., includes the opportunity to work closely with collaborators at Imperial College, London and University of the West of England, Bristol.

The successful candidate will be responsible for synthesising photoactive monomers and polymers for incorporation into antimicrobial materials. The PDRA will fully characterise all compounds synthesised and modify/optimise them in response to results from parallel studies at Imperial College, London to incorporate them into thin films and surface coatings with photo-antimicrobial action. The PDRA will also travel to the laboratory of collaborators at University of West of England, Bristol, to perform hands-on antimicrobial assays on materials produced at Imperial College, London.

The University of Hull has recently made significant investments in interdisciplinary biomedical research. The Chemistry section occupies two buildings at the heart of the main campus, and was recently joined to the new Allam Building for Biomedical Research and Centre for Positron Emission Tomography.  The University is also currently building a new Health Campus on the Hull site. As holders of an Athena Swan Bronze Award we are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, and follow the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.
