Description :

The Department for Health is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Human Physiology with a focus on health and exercise, and an interest in applying their work to contemporary health-related issues. We are looking for somebody to make a contribution to research and teaching in this area. We are particularly interested in applicants conducting applied research who will complement existing research interests within the department.

Our Department is a vibrant community providing excellent opportunities for academic teaching and research. We currently have 57 core members of research and teaching staff, and 35 postgraduate students from across the disciplines.  Our strengths as a Department include the opportunities for interdisciplinary work and as such we take a collaborative approach within the Department, with other Departments within the University of Bath, and external partners and stakeholders.

Our research is organised around three themes: Lifelong Health and Wellbeing, Improving Human Function, and a Fair and Vibrant Society. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF2014), we returned staff across three Units of Assessment, ranking 5th (Sport & Exercise Science) and 6th (Allied Health Professions), with ~90% of our outputs rated as world-leading or internationally excellent (i.e. 3-4*).

We teach across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes related to health, exercise and sport. The University of Bath was named Sports University of the Year 2018, and our Sport & Exercise Science programme is ranked 2nd by the Guardian and Complete University Guide 2019.

The Department for Health are dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for our staff and students. We hold a Bronze Athena SWAN award in recognition of our ongoing commitment to gender equality.
