About You

You should have a degree in a healthcare discipline, relevant research experience with participants, preferably with young people and parents (e.g. health, social care), along with experience of undertaking a systematic or structure literature review. You should be able to demonstrate experience of mixed-methods approaches to data collection and analysis, have experience of working with participants using hospice or other palliative or end of life care services and experience of working in collaborative research teams.

About the Role

We are looking for a Research Assistant to work on an innovative project to explore the views of families and stakeholders on the current use and experience of a local children’s hospice and identify recommendations for the future development of the service to meet the needs of a growing population with greater reach, spread, and choice across the local area. The study will involve a rapid review of the literature, an audit of the current use and referral patterns, survey and interview data collection with families and professionals, and a world café style event to discuss the findings and identify recommendations and priorities for the future service and workforce development. The project team includes academics working in close partnership with families, the hospice staff and volunteers, healthcare professionals, and families with a child, young person or young adults with a life-limiting condition. The project will involve some travel to conduct data collection or attend steering group meetings in the North West region. The role is offered on a part time basis for 10 months. 

You will be responsible for day to day work on the study including a rapid review of the literature, conducting surveys, interviews and focus groups, contributing to consultation world café style events, analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, team communication, contributing to each stage of study, and co-authorship of the study report and a publication. The role also includes supporting co-ordination of the study advisory group consisting of young people and parents who use the hospice, and health and social care professionals. It is essential that you have experience of conducting research with participants who use a hospice or other palliative/end of life care services.
