About the opportunity

We wish to enhance our established teaching programme and research with the appointment of a Lecturer in Podiatry. We are seeking to appoint a highly-motivated professional to teach in their own specialist area and to provide generic teaching across all areas of podiatry. You will join an established and highly-skilled teaching team committed to transforming health services and improving health outcomes, and building on our national and international education and research reputation.

There will be opportunities to contribute to ongoing curriculum review, ensuring that our programme continues to prepare students for careers in range of podiatric roles, as clinicians, researchers and leaders in public, private and commercial healthcare environments.

This position provides an ideal opportunity to be involved in cross-disciplinary research within the School of Health Sciences, and throughout the University of Southampton. The School has recently amalgamated into the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences (FELS), which offers further opportunities for innovative, interdisciplinary research and teaching. This has included the development of new purpose-built clinical teaching and research facilities at the University campus. 

In this role you will:

Teach into undergraduate and postgraduate courses in podiatry, assume responsibility for module leadership, and contribute to curriculum development within your area of expertise;Undertake research in line with the School/Department research strategy;Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students;Provide academic leadership within the discipline of podiatry, and particularly within your area of expertise;Perform clinical visits and placement support;Provide student support and progression.

To succeed in securing this role, you will have:

HCPC registration and be a member of the College of Podiatry; Academic experience in higher education and/or formal teaching qualification(s);Doctoral level or equivalent professional qualifications or experience in podiatry;  Clinical expertise in podiatry;Experience in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation is desirable, but not essential;Research experience in your field of podiatry, with evidence of conference presentations and a track record of published research;Demonstrated ability to work effectively within collaborative academic teams;A vision for the future of podiatry in a changing health climate as well as an understanding of changes in the health sector and its impact; around your discipline;Evidence of effective inter-personal skills;Postgraduate clinical qualifications in podiatry will be highly regarded, but not essential.
