The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to supervise undergraduate and masters dissertations. The person appointed will be expected to conduct original research in appropriate fields and play a lead role in collaborative research projects, leading to high quality publications and grant income. The successful candidate will also be expected to assist with the administration of the School of Aerospace and the Faculty of Science and Engineering in general and thus contribute to the School’s growth in the field of Aerospace Engineering. 


This post is related to the teaching of undergraduate / postgraduate courses in the field of Aerospace Propulsion. The teaching content will cover aspects such as 1) the fundamental thermodynamics principles, including key underlying equation sets such as the first and second law of thermodynamics, perfect gas relationships and analysis of relevant cycles for Aerospace propulsion such as the Brayton cycle, 2) the principles of aircraft propulsion with a focus on jet engines, including the principles of gas turbine engines, the application of compressible flow and turbomachinery processes and 3) considerations on factors influencing design and choice of engine configurations.


Candidates must have a PhD degree and preferably postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline, preferable in aeronautical engineering and mechanical engineering, and excellent communication and presentation skills in English. Knowledge and experience of propulsion and thermofluids are necessary. Experience of supervising PhD and Master students and experience of teaching, tutorial or laboratory work at undergraduate and postgraduate level in an international English speaking institution are preferable.


Salary will be within the range of £36,261 to £48,677 per annum depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.


The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of five years starting from August 2019. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.
