We are renowned for our emphasis on courses that prepare students for careers in professional practice within and outside of the legal profession.  The School enjoys close links with law firms, businesses and advisory services throughout the region.  We have gained an international reputation as a major centre for academically rigorous legal education and training both in the UK and overseas and we are proud of our teaching, research and knowledge exchange We are looking to recruit three new lecturers, with legal education, practice and/or research experience and the necessary qualifications to teach across our course portfolio. You’ll contribute to developing and delivering our successful UG and PG law portfolio, as well as building strong links with employers and professionals. Joining Birmingham City Law School at our city-centre building, you’ll ensure an excellent student experience through the use of relevant and inspiring learning, teaching and assessment methods. Our state of the art educational facilities offer a dynamic environment for our students and staff, and our internationally recognised research contributes to solving societal challenges through our research centres in American Legal Studies, Human Rights, and Law, Science and Policy Successful candidates will be able to contribute to teaching across all core areas of the undergraduate provision, in particular Equity and Trusts, Constitutional & Administrative law, Contract, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Employment. For the Legal Practice Course this will be both core and elective areas such as Wills and Probate, Tax, Professional Conduct and Regulation, Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence. Main Duties and Responsibilities Use appropriate learning, teaching, support and assessment methods. Supervise student projects and the academic elements of field trips, and where appropriate, placements too. Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement and contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material. Select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students. Ensure that module design and delivery comply with quality standards and regulations of the University. Engage in scholarship as required to support teaching activities and continually update knowledge. Extend, transform and apply knowledge applied from scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities including knowledge generation, knowledge exchange and knowledge transfer activities. Conduct individual research or work on collaborative research projects. Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research. Engage in collaborative partnerships and contribute to the University’s work in influencing leading edge practice. Make presentations at conferences and other similar events.  Skills and Experience  Successful candidates should have a qualification in law and preferably legal practice experience Ideally applicants will have experience of teaching law in higher education Research expertise or the willingness to undertake research activity is desirable Candidates must be able to teach on core undergraduate areas as appropriate however particular expertise in the following English Law areas is sought: Equity & Trusts, Constitutional & Administrative Law, Contract, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Employment law.
