Description :

Are you interested in animal behaviour and welfare?  Do you have experience in conducting behaviour analysis and handling large animals?

You will work as part of a team on the UKRI funded project PigSustain, to collect and analyse data from video footage of pigs in commercial settings. PigSustain is a multi-disciplinary, cross-institution collaborative project with multiple simultaneous work packages in epidemiology and statistics, consumer data analysis, agricultural economics, and vision engineering/machine learning.

Your role on the project will be to install CCTV or similar camera systems inside commercial pig houses, thereafter conducting regular visits to the farms to manually collect injury and body condition score data, carry out camera system maintenance and liaise with producers.  You will observe and record behaviour data from samples of video footage collected on farm. You will provide assistance to the post- doctoral research fellows with data management and annotation.

You will have a Higher National Diploma, Honours or Masters degree in Biology, Zoology or Animal Science (or equivalent experience) in a related subject. Substantial experience handling large animals is essential as well as experience of conducting behaviour analyses.
