The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a Research Associate/Fellow position in the field of Techno-economic Analysis and Life Cycle Assessment and application to the production of renewable chemicals and fuels. 

You will lead economic and environmental impact modelling activities to quantify the technical, environmental and financial viability of emerging technology opportunities. You will work collaboratively with Beacon partners, taking responsibility for the development of software tools for both the rapid assessment of technologies being developed at laboratory scale and in-depth evaluation of more mature technologies on the verge of commercialisation. You will identify opportunities for the integration of the techno-economic tools with other assessment methodologies to comprehensively evaluate financial, environmental and social viability.

You are required to have a PhD (or be about to obtain) in a relevant field, with a background in chemical engineering being particularly desirable. Experience developing process simulation and quantitative evaluation tools – outside of commercial software packages - is essential for the position. A background in complementary evaluation tools, including life cycle assessment, is desirable but not a requirement. Specific experience with industrial biotechnology and bioenergy systems is advantageous. Excellent communication skills are essential.

This full-time position will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 36 months in the first instance, with the opportunity to extend this contract subject to funding availability and by mutual decision. The position is available to immediately and job share arrangements may be considered.
