Description :

Lancaster Medical School is seeking to appoint an experienced administrator to join the Primary Care Academic Teaching (PCAT) professional service team at a senior level.  The friendly and well-established PCAT team is part of Lancaster Medical School in the Faculty of Health and Medicine, and is led by two Co-Directors (Academic GPs), and comprises an enthusiastic and supportive leadership team of GP Senior Clinical Lecturers, together with a team of permanent GP-Clinical Teaching Fellows, sessional GP Tutors, and is supported administratively by a committed professional services team.

The PCAT department is responsible for the primary care element of the MBChB medicine degree, which includes campus GP-led primary care teaching across all five years of the curriculum, student placements in GP and community organisations across our footprint of Cumbria and North Lancashire, and student outreach activities with schools and third sector organisations. The PCAT department is a well-established and structured team who have forged excellent relationships with GP and community partners since the establishment of the medical school here in Lancaster. The team works hard to deliver high quality experience of primary care for our undergraduates.

You will work closely with the PCAT Co-Directors and leadership team to provide a high level of administrative and stakeholder engagement support, including administration of student campus teaching, coordinating and administering GP and Community placements. You will have responsibility for line managing a small, dedicated professional service team who work closely and effectively together, and are highly supportive.

You will be able to demonstrate experience of managing complex systems, and a knowledge of detailed administrative processes.  An ability to forge and maintain good relationships with external partners is crucial to the role. You will demonstrate leading and working as part of a team and be able to convey complex issues to others.  This is a varied and challenging role which would suit a skilled communicator and administrator. The role may suit a candidate who has prior experience of educational program or health care administration, although these are not essential.

In return, we can offer you a friendly, supportive and enthusiastic team that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee and actively promotes a healthy work-life balance. The Faculty is committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies and has held a Silver Athena SWAN award since 2014 in recognition of its good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research. LMS is committed to ensuring our workforce is reflective of our diverse student population and is therefore committed to increasing representation of racially minoritized staff across all roles and at all levels.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be addressed to Dr Fliss Connolly f.connolly@lancaster.ac.uk and Dr Euan Lawson e.m.lawson@lancaster.ac.uk.

Closing Date: 17 Mar 2024

Department: Support - Administrative

Salary: £29,605 to £36,024 (Full time, indefinite)
