We invite applications for a 3 month research assistant position to develop optical fibre for photonic quantum technologies. 

The post is funded by an industrially-led collaboration between 14 universities and a variety of companies across the UK.

About the role

Working closely with project partners, you will contribute to the project goal to create quantum data centres of the future by developing optical fibre-based single-photon sources and high-performance optical switches. 

This project will give you the opportunity to broaden and strengthen your research skills, using Bath’s research-grade optical fibre fabrication cleanroom to make micro-structured fibre and deploying your devices in state-of-the-art photonics labs. As well as creating industrially-relevant technologies, we aim to publish results from this project in high-impact academic journals and disseminate our findings at high-profile international conferences.

The CPPM is a highly collaborative research centre consisting of approximately 40 staff and postgraduate students. 

The Department of Physics at the University of Bath is a research-led department, and is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment.

About you

You will have experience in experimental quantum photonics, fibre photonics, or a related field. 

You will require strong laboratory skills as well as a firm theoretical understanding of quantum optics. 

Experience with speciality optical fibre, including fabrication, will be advantageous.
