Designability is an independent, national charity that enables disabled people to live with greater independence. Our expertise is in user-centred design, creating products with and for disabled people to improve and enrich their lives.

The common thread through all of our work is in the design, creation and provision of a product to increase independence for disabled people. This is not just about products people need, but products they want to use.

We deliver choice by involving disabled people across our organisation and throughout the design process to create innovative product solutions not available elsewhere. We create great looking, easy-to-use products that go beyond basic functionality and we partner with industry to help as many people as we can – we’ve transformed over 300,000 lives to date. As a charity, our mission is to get the right products into the hands of those who need them. We build prototypes and develop products in response to specific needs, in the hope that our products will inspire new markets to blossom.

This role will lead the Engineering Support at Designability. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the production and continuous improvement of existing products, working closely with the Engineering Operations Manager to ensure the engineering operations run efficiently, within budget, and delivers products manufactured on time to the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.  

Responsibilities: 

Lead the Engineering Support team to deliver the supply of Designability products.Manage the Medical Device Files (technical files) for medical devices.Working closely with the Engineering Operations Manager to lead and undertake the QMS procedures relating to engineering operations, keeping accurate records and continuously improving our processes.Create accurate production schedules to satisfy demand including reporting and KPI tracking.Work closely with the Production Team Lead to manage internal resources, build schedules and timely supply of components to meet demand. Collaborate to implement new Quality control procedures in production.    To be responsible for the financial management of the engineering operations, including the product Bills of Materials and the introduction of a formal stock management system.Work closely with the Engineering Operations Manager to accurately forecast expenditure in relation to engineering operations.  Manage and onboard suppliers monitoring their performance in line with the QMS, including creation of an approved suppliers list.Manage the change control process including the revision of engineering drawings, spare parts lists, and assembly instructions.  Support the programme office in the logistics, supply chain, courier & shipping operations, including the return of Wizzybugs at the end of the loan scheme.Conduct Risk Assessment process for COSH materials, heavy duty tools and ensure all production team are in date with any training requirements for the equipment used.To be committed to the work of Designability and work in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures.To conduct such other duties as may be required by the organisation from time to time.Willing and able to undertake work outside normal hours and to travel as required.
