ICDDPS — 3rd International Conference on Data-Driven Plasma Science

On behalf of the Executive Scientific Committee, we are delighted to welcome you to the 3rd International Conference on Data-Driven Plasma Science (ICDDPS-3), which will be held at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Okinawa, Japan, from the 20th to 24th April, 2020. Prior to the Conference, one-day tutorial classes called School of Data-Driven Plasma Science will be held in the same location on the 19th April, 2020. The goal of the Conference is for the participants to gain information on and to discuss latest research activities in data-driven science (such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, image processing, data mining, and big data) applied to plasma science and technologies, including, but not limited to, plasma processing and nuclear fusion. Thanks to the recent advancement of sophisticated diagnostics techniques and first-principle computer simulations, the amount of data that one can accumulate in typical research is increasing exponentially. Plasma scientists should also be able to take full advantage of, or even contribute to, the latest development of data-driven science and devise a way to extract essential information efficiently from such data. The extracted information then may be used for more efficient plasmas control and/or offer good insight into physical mechanisms of the phenomena that they study. This year, ICDDPS-3 will be held concurrently with the 12th EU-Japan Joint Symposium on Plasma Processing (JSPP2020) and the registered participants of the conference are welcome to attend the sessions of the JSPP2020 free of charge. We hope that this Conference will facilitate research activities in such areas.
