We are working in partnership with six other universities—Birmingham, Sheffield, Strathclyde, Leeds, Loughborough, and the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC)— and cooperating with numerous industry partners, as part of the EPSRC Manufacturing Research Hub in Robotics, Automation & Smart Machine Enabled Sustainable Circular Manufacturing & Materials (RESCu-M²). This £11 million investment supports fundamental research to deliver transformative impact in sustainable manufacturing.

The project will develop a decision-making solution to enhance the efficiency of circular manufacturing, focusing on Re-X processes (remanufacturing, refurbishment, repair, reuse, and recycling). Using advanced sensing technologies and data analytics, the project will deliver insights to support informed decision-making in end-of-life product assessment, Re-X process optimisation, and quality assurance. The project also encourages high-value circular practices in sectors like medical technology, energy, and large-scale infrastructure.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

Up-to-date and in-depth knowledge in engineering, computer science, and data analytics.Understanding of equality of opportunity, academic integrity, and issues related to circular manufacturingStrong IT and programming skills (e.g., Python, Visual Studio, cloud-based applications).Knowledge of manufacturing processes, technologies, and operations, or familiarity with Circular Economy principles, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and SQL databases.A relevant degree in Engineering, computer science and data analytics or a closely related subject and a postgraduate qualification in the relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
