Research Fellow (Fixed-Term) (MED261925)

Applications are invited for the post of research fellow based in the School of Medicine, Blood Cancer and Stem Cell Group, University of Nottingham.

About the role – The project will study the potential use of repurposed drugs for myeloma with the goal of improving treatment and patient outcomes. The fixed-term position is funded until 31/03/2028 by the Stanley and Marion Irish-Nee-Bethell fund, Nottingham Hospital Charity. The research is largely laboratory based using cell lines and primary myeloma samples, with some bioinformatics analysis. The role holder will be expected to plan, conduct and analyse research using appropriate approaches and techniques, and will be responsible for writing up the results for publication. 

About the team – You will join the lab of Dr Claire Seedhouse and Dr Dean Smith and work closely with members of the Blood Cancer and Stem Cell research group. The project is based in the Biodiscovery Institute with access to state-of-the-art facilities (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/research-areas/biodiscovery-institute/biodiscovery-institute.aspx)

About you – A PhD, or the equivalent in professional qualifications, and experience in blood cancer cell culture and drug response assays is essential. Experience of working with primary samples is desirable. Consideration will be given to candidates who are PhD students nearing the submission of their thesis. Excellent communication skills are key as the role holder will be collaborating between NHS and academic staff.
