About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Teaching Support Technician within the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, based at our Sutton Bonington Campus. This is a permanent, full-time role (36.25 hours per week) supporting the delivery of practical teaching sessions for veterinary students.

The core responsibilities of this role include supporting the running of the school’s animal facilities, with a particular focus on farm animals, and assisting in the delivery of high-quality husbandry and welfare practices in line with the University’s gold standard. As a key member of our technical team, you will help ensure that practical classes, including clinical skills, live animal sessions (small and large), dissection, cadaver surgery, and laboratory-based teaching are fully resourced and run efficiently. Responsibilities will include preparing and clearing materials and equipment, maintaining appropriate stock levels of consumables, and ensuring that all teaching areas remain clean, organised, and safe. Strict compliance with Health and Safety regulations, including the safe disposal of clinical and biohazardous waste, is an essential aspect of the role.

We are looking for a proactive and adaptable individual with good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You should have a basic understanding of animal husbandry and the principles of biology or anatomy and be physically capable of lifting and moving items over 10kg. Essential requirements include GCSEs (grade C or above) in Maths and English or equivalent, or relevant experience in a similar technical role, along with a full UK manual driving licence. Basic IT skills and knowledge of Health and Safety procedures are also required. Desirable qualifications include an Animal Care Diploma (BTEC) and experience working with a range of animal species.

If you are enthusiastic about supporting veterinary education and enjoy working in a hands-on technical role, we would love to hear from you.

This is a full time, permanent position.
