Description :

Applications are invited for an experienced researcher to join the Food Water Waste Research Group, where you will lead key research unpacking the heat and mass transfer dynamics on a project using smouldering combustion to drive a carbon-negative waste treatment process – through integration with materials destined for carbon mineralisation.

The successful candidate will design and execute the necessary experimental and modelling components of the project. This work will require effective communication with the broader international team of researchers and project partners to share information efficiently across work packages.

You will be expected to plan and conduct your own analyses using available tools, to adapt existing methodologies and models, and design new models that improve our understanding of the carbon-negative waste treatment process. You will also be responsible for preparing analysis reports, leading publications, and presenting your results regularly to team members and at international conferences.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to further develop research independence in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, with the scope to develop novel modelling tools and experimental methods and expand your researcher portfolio.

Candidates should hold a PhD (or be near completion). Evidence of previous experience in smouldering experimental and modelling work is essential. The candidate must demonstrate they have the appropriate background to analyse heat and mass transfer dynamics within the relevant smouldering systems. Evidence of smouldering peer-reviewed journal publications is essential to demonstrate necessary competence. Previous experience in researching novel smouldering applications will be considered a strong asset.

This is a 3-year fixed term post (36.25 hours per week). Flexible working arrangements and job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Tarek Rashwan (tarek.rashwan@nottingham.ac.uk).  Please note that applications sent directly to this e-mail address will not be accepted.
