Description :

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in molecular biology, cell biology or biomedical research? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading Cardiovascular Institutes?

You will join a thriving and multidisciplinary research group and have the opportunity to contribute to an exciting piece of work which has the potential to transform our textbook knowledge of blood clotting and thrombosis. You will be involved in research that follows the recent findings of a new interaction between fibrin (a polymer produced by blood coagulation) and Glycoprotein VI (GPVI- a collagen receptor on platelets), that activates platelets and contributes to thrombosis. You will be responsible for the development of new recombinant fibrin variants to probe the fibrin-GPVI interactions, support crystallography studies of the complex by establishing conditions for purification of GPVI-ligand complexes, and develop functional studies on the role of platelets in fibrin generation.

With the ability to manage competing demands effectively, you will be highly motivated and able to work effectively within a large team which includes colleagues in Leeds, studying blood clot structure and function, and collaborators in Birmingham who will develop novel GPVI variants. You will have a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, biomedical science or a closely allied discipline, or have submitted your PhD prior to the appointment start date. A strong background in haemostasis and thrombosis research would be an advantage.
