Description :
The Department of Mechanical Engineering Sciences at the University of Surrey is seeking to recruit a member of academic staff to support its research and teaching in Biomedical Engineering.  The Department benefits from extensive national and international collaboration, excellent facilities, and strong links with industry.     Research activity in Biomedical Engineering in the Department currently includes human and animal biomechanics, prosthetics, biomedical signal processing, medical devices and dielectrophoresis. Facilities include a Qualisys-equipped human movement laboratory, a dielectrophoresis lab and cell culture facilities.  The appointee would be expected to have an appropriate engineering (or related discipline) background, and to undertake high quality research in one of these areas, or to establish new complementary areas. Research may also complement other departmental research areas in Automotive, Aerospace or Materials engineering.    The appointee will be expected to teach students on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Biomedical Engineering, and wider programmes in the Department. These are well established programmes which attract high calibre students.  Experience in teaching biomechanics would be particularly welcome. An ability and enthusiasm for delivering a high quality student experience are essential. Chartered Engineer status would also be desirable.   The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze Award and is committed to equality of opportunity and the promotion of diversity for the benefit of all.   Depending on experience, qualifications and research track record, appointments will be made at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level.   Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Nick Hills, (T: +441483 682356, E: n.hills@surrey.ac.uk).
