Working within the UK Quantum Technology Hub for Sensors and Metrology, the person appointed will assist in the microfabrication and characterisation of components needed to develop and commercialize atom-based quantum sensors including magnetometers, rotation sensors and gravimeters. The components include: atom chips, ion chips and integrated optical components.

The role will involve developing microfabrication processes to further improve atom and ion chip structures as well as characterisation techniques. The person will also assist in the development of integrated optical components.

The post will also involve collaboration with academic and industrial partners. 

Main Responsibilities:

Fabrication of atom and ion chips using lithographic microfabrication techniques.Physical and electrical characterisation of the atom and ion chips.Assisting in the fabrication of optical waveguide devices. Liaison with, and coordination of, collaboration between cold atom physicists, semiconductor physicists and industrial partners.Collaborate with colleagues undertaking related work at other institutions and in industry, undertaking national and international travel as required.Presentation and dissemination of project results in both oral and written communications including assistance in writing progress reports.Contribute to the training and personal development of PhD students.

This is a fixed-term post for a period of 12 months. Hours of work are full-time, however job share arrangements may be considered.
