Description :

We are seeking a postdoctoral scientist to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team to work on a research project funded by the DSTL (Defence and Security Technology Laboratory). The project involves using our non-viral gene delivery systems to express regenerative growth factors in cell culture and human tissues. The goal is to demonstrate the integration of our system into direct application to patient cells ex vivo for a larger phase 2 pre-clinical phase (GET peptides, Osman et al. 2018, Dixon et al. 2016).

You will

optimise gene delivery in culture, hydrogels models of soft-tissue and human material ex vivo, assess the levels and duration of gene delivery, engineer state-of-the art vectors for several growth-factors, measure growth-factor secretion and cellular effect, conduct some demonstrations showing the system can be functional in austere military environments.

To be suitable for this post, you need to be interested in regenerative medicine, gene delivery and orthopaedics, and be eager to employ these for the treatment of human trauma and disease. You must have at least an upper-second class degree, a PhD (or close to completion) in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine or a closely related discipline, and a proven research track record. You will be able to demonstrate a proactive, dynamic and dedicated approach to work. Previous experience in the field of cell/gene therapy, wound healing and growth-factor assays is desirable.

This full-time post is available on a fixed-term contract until 31 August 2019.

We pride ourselves on the collegial and supportive culture created by our staff. We are dedicated to creating an environment which enables both our staff to thrive and achieve their potential. Our commitment to Equality and Diversity has been recognised in the awarding of an Athena SWAN Bronze Award.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr James Dixon (email: james.dixon@nottingham.ac.uk). Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
