Description :

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position within the Centre for Photonics and Photonic Materials at the University of Bath to carry out research into coherent light matter interactions with applications in quantum memories and optical switching.

In this role you will oversee the development of two experimental platforms for light storage and quantum optical processing, based on optically induced grating structures in atomic vapour, and on Brillouin scattering in diamond. In addition, you will contribute to theoretical work, write up and disseminate results, and liaise with other project partners. You will be responsible for day-to-day supervision of two graduate students and for maintaining safe working practices in the laboratory.

The successful candidate will hold (or be very close to obtaining) a doctorate in physics or a related field as well as having excellent laboratory skills in quantum optics or laser physics. Experience in light-matter interactions in alkali vapours or with light-scattering in condensed matter systems will be an advantage.

Physics at the University of Bath is a research-led Department, ranked highly in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment. We are working to improve the present gender balance within the Department, and particularly welcome applications from women.

The post is funded from a grant that runs until 30 November 2019.

Informal enquiries about the role should be directed to Dr Josh Nunn (jasn21@bath.ac.uk), however, please ensure that all applications are submitted via the University website.
