The Research and Innovation Services Directorate plays a key role in providing holistic research and innovation support services to a diverse academic community, as well as to the surrounding directorates and leadership team, in order to drive the further enhancement of the research and innovation performance of the University. The Director, Research and Innovation Services, will lead the provision of administrative and professional support for the Research and Innovation functions of the University, including delivering change initiatives and transformational projects, and shaping the strategic direction of the Directorate. Moreover, the post holder will work closely with the Vice-Provost (Research and Innovation) and team, including Directors of: Research Strategy; Innovation Strategy; Doctoral College; and Surrey Research Park.

This is an important senior leadership role and presents a unique opportunity to provide operational leadership across Surrey’s growing portfolio of research and innovation activities. The role requires a commitment to continuous improvement, process excellence and a strong service mentality, with exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships within a research context. The preferred candidate will have demonstrable management experience within a large, complex organisation and bring sufficient understanding of the business of research and innovation. The appointee will require strong people management skills, an analytical approach, and be decisive, with ability to prioritise and communicate objectives clearly and compellingly in order to achieve organisational goals. Flexible and creative, they will also be comfortable managing and developing performance, including budgetary and line management responsibilities.
