Description :

PhD studentship with Nottingham University Business School’s Finance, Risk and Banking division.

Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) is inviting applications from suitably-qualified graduates for a fully-funded PhD studentship.

The project

The main objective of the project is to define a new financial strategy for the least developed countries (LCDs) based on FinTech solutions with respect to three main dimensions:

Credit risk management and scoring: use of Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data and Behavioural DriversDirect private investments: use of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) to increase the amount and reliability of information between lenders and (potential) borrower.Access to funding: quantify the effects of the new financial strategy in terms of financial inclusion, small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) access to funding and growth variables such as Startups, IPOs and Unicorns, innovation (i.e. Technology) and business cycle smoothing.

The project will address both the theoretical and empirical point of view of the new FinTech strategy for credit risk management and sustainable investing. From a methodological point of view, it will make use of the cutting edge standard parametric and semi-parametric techniques and the programming languages allowing the implementation of AI/ML algorithms for Big Data analysis, such as R and Python. Additionally, the project will implement an empirical analysis based on the new techniques to prove the fit of the new strategy with the sample data (e.g. random forest regression).

Successful candidate will work with Professor Meryem Duygun and Dr Maurizio Fiaschetti.

This funded PhDs will commence from 1st October 2020. A yearly stipend at current RCUK rates (£15,009), plus UK/EU student tuition fees (£4,414), is available to the successful applicant.
