The School of Biosciences and the Division of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Nottingham invite applications for the post of Assistant Professor in Environmental Aquatic Science.

The role is to advance research and support teaching in Environmental Science within the School of Biosciences. The Division of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (AES) is the focus for teaching of undergraduate and MSci courses in Environmental Science, Environmental Biology and Agricultural Science. The successful candidate will be based within AES and expected to develop externally funded research and deliver modular teaching in the area of Environmental Aquatic Science. Applicants with a research emphasis in freshwater science, water quality and pollution and the interplay between these and the terrestrial environment are particularly welcome.

This post would involve lecturing, running seminars, leading field courses, conducting assessments, devising and overseeing research projects and giving pastoral care to our students. The ability to design, plan and deliver high quality teaching is essential.

Designing and leading independent research programmes and pursuing the relevant funding to achieve their aims is essential. This would involve; supervising and managing research students and researchers, presenting and interpreting outcomes and findings and engaging outside the university. 

The job involves demonstrating high level interpersonal skills with people from all over the world; working within the university’s regulations and governance in relation to teaching; and to get up to speed with our systems.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible and might be expected to teach outside of their research area, as well as making a wider contribution to the School and University as a whole. Therefore, they need to be collegiate, involving themselves in additional activities, working in a team to deliver projects and taking opportunities to represent the School.

The role is based at the Sutton Bonington Campus within the School of Biosciences while the majority of teaching will be at the University Park Campus. Further information about the School is available at: www.nottingham.ac.uk/biosciences.

Candidates must have a PhD in Environmental Science, Aquatic Science or closely related discipline and proven ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in relevant subjects. A postgraduate teaching qualification would be desirable.

The successful applicant will have evidence of high quality publications in academic journals in a relevant subject area, the ability to develop their own research area and flexibility to collaborate with colleagues.
