The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, have an exciting opportunity in one of the most dynamic centers for engineering and environmental research and education.   

You will join our team to work at the Electrochemical Engineering Laboratory at the University of Southampton to investigate the reduction of carbon dioxide and the anodic production of hydrogen peroxide. 

You will develop and contribute to new areas of research and advance towards a more environmentally and sustainable society. The project involves the study of the conversion of carbon dioxide into a useful fuel. Current strategic areas include focusing on the development of catalysts for reduction carbon dioxide together with the development of catalyst coated three-dimensional electrodes that can be adapted into electrolytic flow cells. The electrodes should be mechanically strong and present low over-potential for the reduction of carbon dioxide. This project is conducted in partnership with other 9 European institutions as a part of a “Horizon 2020 – the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020)” consortium project, entitled: CO2-based Electrosynthesis of ethylene oXIDE (CO2EXIDE). The project includes close collaboration with all the partners in the project and active participation in meetings and dissemination of findings. The post is a fix contract term for 5 months and will be suitable for someone who has recently completed a PhD degree or a master in electrochemistry.    

This position is full time fixed term until 31/05/2021.

To be successful you will need to hold a PhD** in electrochemical engineering or applied electrochemistry or near completion or in a related area, for example a MSc in electrochemistry. You should have the ability to plan and carry out experimental research on complex electrochemical systems and be able to supervise undergraduate students. Experience with electrocatalysis will be desirable. You will also need good communication and networking skills.
