Business Development and Marketing Director (MHNCC1247)

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is seeking an exceptional individual to shape and lead the promotion of the NIHR as a preferred global site for undertaking commercial and non-commercial research in health, public health and social care. As the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Business Development and Marketing Director, you will work to attract and negotiate new research business with a mission to increase significantly the UK’s market share of health and care research activity to benefit the health and wealth of the nation. 

You will work closely with very senior staff from a wide range of sectors, including the global pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries, clinical research organisations, research charities and other non-commercial research funders, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and other government departments, the UK Devolved Administrations, the NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure (NOCRI) and other staff and stakeholders across the NIHR and health and care services. 

You will have outstanding influencing, diplomacy and negotiating skills commanding the respect of directors, managers and clinicians, and you will have an excellent track record and demonstrable skills in the promotion and communication of research and research services. The NIHR CRN is a distributed organisation, and so you will be able to provide credible leadership across organisational boundaries and be comfortable working out with conventional management hierarchies. You will have presence and will be able to demonstrate inspirational leadership and influence in a range of settings. With the ability to think strategically and grasp complex commercial, policy and political issues, you will have a strong understanding of the UK health and care research environment, and of the opportunities and challenges in maximising health and care research for the benefit of patients and the public. 

Your organisational base will be the NIHR CRN Coordinating Centre, with a choice of either Leeds or London locations. The Coordinating Centre encourages flexible working arrangements. This is a full-time post. This post is offered to 31 March 2023.

The employer will be the University of Leeds. 

Your direct report will be to the CRN Chief Executive Officer.
