The function of Building Surveyor is an important role in the Estates and Facilities Directorate, providing Building Surveying, condition and dilapidation services across the estate as well as project delivery across small, and medium scale works within our exciting programme of capital development works.

It is an exciting time for the team, as we drive improvements in compliance, efficiency, customer service and performance as well as creating the opportunity to gain competitive advantages through our activity-underpinned by a significant investment in the Estate in conjunction with a full modernisation programme across the team’s systems and processes. The post holders will also play a critical role in the successful achievement of delivering 100% of our estate in condition A&B.

Reporting to the Project Manager the Building Surveyors will be experienced, motivated, proven professionals with expertise in delivering Building Surveying and Project Delivery services.

The postholders will form part of the Programme, Space and Property Management Team and will have experience in being a key part of a technical estate management function. The successful candidates will hold an undergraduate degree, or higher, in a relevant subject, or Full membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors i.e. MRICS or actively working towards with a clear route map to membership.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

Experience of providing building surveying services in a large and complex organisational environment, with a strong working knowledge of building maintenance management practice and associated legislation. the ability to delivery small to medium sized projects from inception to completion, undertaking a range of tasks including design, procurement, and contract administrationA strong working knowledge of using AutoCAD and NBS Specifications

Specifically, the postholders will:

Deliver a professional building surveying service, including the delivery of minor/medium works repair, alteration and refurbishment projects. Ensuring all projects are delivered within time, cost and quality parameters and adhering to Estates and Facilities processes, systems and procedures.Assist in the development and implementation of building planned preventive and reactive maintenance strategy, including surveying, use of CAFM, PPM/Cyclical maintenance scheduling and delivery and support of the reactive maintenance team.  Assisting in the continuous improvement in the condition of the university estate.Provide technical input into major capital projects.
