Description :

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking to recruit Lecturers or Senior Lecturers to undertake high quality research and teaching in the broad areas of design and/or manufacturing.  Two appointments will be made.

Candidates may have expertise in areas such as computational or optimised product design, digital manufacturing, computer aided design/manufacturing, new manufacturing processes and technologies, advances in existing processes (CNC machining, additive manufacturing, forming technologies), the design process, mechatronic design, or minimising environmental impact of products and processes.  Candidates with other research expertise which complements existing strengths in the Department are welcome to apply, but will need to demonstrate an ability to teach in engineering design or manufacturing.

Teaching is expected to support our well-established and highly successful Mechanical MEng undergraduate degree programmes.  All our degrees have an exceptional reputation for their engineering design foundations and we are looking for candidates who can support - and potentially lead - elements of the design or manufacturing curriculum. We also welcome candidates with specialist teaching contributions for our Mechanical with Manufacturing and Management degree. In addition, you will be expected to fully participate in supervising students undertaking significant individual and group projects encompassing research or design activities.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the ability to conduct independent and/or collaborative research, publish high-quality research papers including journal papers, and demonstrate the potential to obtain significant external research funding. An ability to collaborate with industrial partners is expected. You will hold a PhD and have an emerging or established track record in research in a relevant subject.
