The researcher will have specific responsibility for carrying out fundamental research and delivering research objectives for a research project investigating the role and subcellular RNA localisation and translation in sensory nerve terminals and how they can impact responses to noxious stimuli that lead to persistent chronic pain. For this state of the art molecular tools and in vivo imaging and a simple, powerful, and ethical in vivo model (Drosophila melanogaster larvae), combined with mammalian neuronal models in culture  will be employed to identify conserved mechanisms that mediate pain processes and neuronal sensitisation.

We are part of a highly active and interdisciplinary research environment that is inserted within the Pain Centre Versus Arthritis and the RNA Interdisciplinary Cluster (RIC@N) at the University of Nottingham, who foster a team science approach to their research. The person appointed will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas of methodological advance and research innovation to extend their career development.
