Applications are invited for the role of Senior Research Technician at the University of Nottingham. The support is to deliver objectives for a funded BBSRC grant, to identify conserved mechanisms that mediate pain processes and sensitization in both Drosophila melanogaster larvae and mammalian neuronal models. 

Working closely with senior team members, the role holder will be responsible for the routine maintenance of fly strains and crossing. Previous experience with Drosophila model will be desirable,  but full training in any necessary techniques will be provided to the role holder by senior team members.

This post is based in the research group lead by Dr. Isabella Maiellaro the School of Life Sciences (Medical School Building, Queens Medical Centre). The work will include supporting research projects using standard molecular biology cloning techniques, cell culture assays alongside participating in and working to develop routine Drosophila genetic and behavioral experiments. The appointee will be expected to conduct work using approaches, methodologies and techniques appropriate to the research project, including both applying knowledge and approaches already established in the group, as well as building on these with new developments for this project.

Support to researchers, students and other technicians within the laboratory is a requirement, alongside maintenance of and updating of existing databases and ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations in the laboratory areas.

Previous work experience as a technician or research assistant is desirable.

This role is available on a fixed term basis until 2nd July 2027. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
