Flights
Kathmandu the capital of Nepal is linked by air to major cities of the world with many international airlines having flights directly to Kathmandu, Nepal. Some of the major international airlines having direct flights to Kathmandu are: Nepal Airlines, Himalayan Airlines –  the Nepalese airlines in private sector that has flights in some Asian countries, Qatar Airways, Jet Airways, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air India, Malaysia Airlines, Etihad Airways, Oman Air, China Southern, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways, Korean Air etc

Visa Information
Visa to Nepal is processed by embassy or designate consulate of Nepal in your country or in the nearest country in your region. However, visa can be available at the port of entry in Nepal itself. For more information visit Department of Immigration website ( www.nepalimmigration.gov.np )

Climate and Clothing
June to August is summer season in Nepal. Light clothing is recommended during this season. This is also the monsoon season in Nepal. The weather is hot and wet at times.

Currency & Exchange

Currency
Nepali currency is termed as Rupee. Rupees come in the form of bank paper note with Rs.1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 inscribed on the notes. Nepali coins also come in 25 paisa, 50 paisa, 1 rupee, 5 rupee and 10 rupee coins. You can have your money exchanged at banks and hotels. Prior to any transaction, foremost inquire about the commission and charges that will be deducted for the money exchange at Nepal currency exchange rate. Banks are usually open from 10.00 am to 3.30 pm Sundays through Thursdays and from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm on Fridays. Saturdays are weekend holiday.

Currency Exchange
It is illegal to exchange currency with persons other than authorized dealers in foreign exchange (banks, hotels and licensed money changers). Visitors should obtain Foreign Exchange Encashment Receipts when changing currency and keep them, as these will help in many transactions, including getting visa extensions and trekking permits.

Credit/Debit Cards and ATMs
American Express is widely accepted, with MasterCard and Visa in tourist shops, hotels, restaurants and agencies. ATMs are widely available in Nepal.

Traveller’s Cheques
Accepted at banks and major hotels. If trekking, it is important to bear in mind that cash is necessary. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take traveller’s cheques in US Dollars or Pounds Sterling.

Banking Hours
Banks in the Kathmandu valley are open Mon-Fri 09:00-15:30. In other areas, opening hours are usually Sun-Thurs 10:00-15:00 and Fri 10:00-12:00. Licensed money changers are open 12 hours per day.
